When will the new rodeo
schedule be ready?
The KHSRA directors meet regularly to discuss the new schedule plans. This is a very complex issue that requires communication with other state rodeo associations. The KHSRA must select what joint invitational rodeos we want to participate in out-of-state, and gain approval from states we invite to attend in our own state.
What awards are available at the Kentucky
State Finals Rodeo?
There are saddles to the All-Around Cowboy and Cowgirl.
Buckles to the top 4 in each event. $250.00 scholarships for All-Around Cowboy
& Cowgirl as well as Reserve All-Around Cowboy & Cowgirl. $100.00 scholarships for Rookie of the Year
Boy & Girl. $300.00 scholarship for
Marque Moore Spirit Award and larger scholarships for seniors.
What additional requirements
are there for membership in Kentucky High School Rodeo Association?
Same as the national level, except you must send in a copy of each grade report received, to the state secretary to qualify to compete. You will also need a copy of your birth certificate. All rough stock riders are required to wear helmets. In addition, students are required to participate in various fund raising activities such as raffle sales and collection of a predetermined amount of local sponsorship monies.
How much is the membership
fee?
$138.00 for competing members for the 2007-2008 season. $73.00 for associate members.
Where does the membership fee
go?
$105.00 goes toward your national dues, which includes a yearly subscription to the NHSRA Times magazine and insurance coverage. The remaining fees help cover administrative costs of operating the association. Many do not realize that the average rodeo weekend may cost anywhere between $10,000 and $15,000 dollars to run. The KHSRA relies on many of these costs being covered by our numerous individual supporters and corporate sponsors.
How do students get
schooling and/or practice in an event?
You will need to find your own schools and practice arenas, however it is quite common that some students will get together within their local area to practice together.

Ultimately, due to the costs of hosting a rodeo, the Board of Directors seeks locations that can provide enough sponsors to cover the costs. Local committees, once they have identified a location that can provide suitable facilities: lighted arena, trailer parking, stalls, performance seating, etc. Should additionally seek tentative local sponsors that can jointly donate between $10,000 and $15,000 in contributions to fund such an event. If an area can support these basic requirements, then the local committee should notify the board of directors for the event to placed on a list of possible locations for the upcoming season. A good place to start for identifying local contributors is often your Chamber of Commerce.
